avoidant personality

People with avoidant personality disorder experience constant feelings of inadequacy and are extremely sensitive to negative judgement from others. Despite their desire to communicate with people, they tend to avoid social interaction because to a strong fear of rejection.

Personality disorders are a set of disorders that include avoidant personality disorder. In general, these illnesses are long-term patterns of conduct that are inconsistent with cultural standards and create misery for the individual or people around them. Other personality disorders characterised by uneasiness and apprehension include avoidant personality disorder.

Because they are afraid of rejection and being judged by others, people with avoidant personality disorder avoid social situations. However, because most persons with this illness wish to improve their relationships, counselling may be more effective.

Signs and symptoms:

People with this disease are so afraid of rejection that they would rather be alone than risk being rejected in a relationship. The behaviour pattern of patients with this illness can range from mild to severe. Other frequent characteristics of people with this illness, in addition to their dread of humiliation and rejection, are:

They are overly sensitive, and criticism or rejection can quickly harm them.

They have few, if any, close friends and are hesitant to become engaged with people unless they are confident that they will be appreciated.

In social situations and interactions, they experience great anxiety (nervousness) and fear, prompting them to avoid activities or employment that need them to interact with others.

Because they are afraid of doing something wrong or being embarrassed, they are shy, awkward, and self-conscious in social situations.

They have a tendency to exaggerate possible issues.

They rarely try new things or take risks.

They have a low self-esteem and believe they are inadequate and inferior.
